Born in Cumberland, Maryland, John Douglas was longtime editor of The Morgan Messenger in Berkeley Springs and The Hancock News in Hancock. 

     His work gave him the chance to explore area history and legend in addition to the local headlines. In addition to A Fog of Ghosts and At the Springs with George, he is also the author of three mystery novels and has frequently written on American music and mountain lore.
